Scope of Practice
FOOT & ANKLE
Foot and ankle surgery is surgery performed through
a small incision designed to reduce pain in the foot and ankle region, provide
a stable base for weight transfer, and maintain maximal flexibility within
the foot and ankle. This is necessary in order to provide a good foundation
for walking on uneven ground.
Examples of most common foot and ankle surgery includes
bunion removal, correction of flat feet, repair of tendon and ligament
ruptures and repair of fractures and dislocations. The majority of foot
and ankle surgery is done as a same day surgery. Most foot and ankle complaints
can be alleviated by conservative or nonoperative measures. A big part
of the foot and ankle specialty is knowing when to brace, modify shoes
or operate.
